DOHA, Qatar — Qatar Museums will open ERDEM: About Time, About Her on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at M7 in Doha, the first major exhibition dedicated to British-Turkish designer Erdem Moralioglu, bringing together more than 150 garments, sketches and atelier materials alongside treasures from the Museum of Islamic Art in a celebration of the fashion house's 20th anniversary.
The exhibition runs through December 26, 2026, and is organised as part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture. Curated by Olivier Gabet, director of the Objets d'Art department at the Musée du Louvre, it traces two decades of a label founded in London in 2005 that has become one of fashion's most literary and romantic voices.

What Happened
Qatar Museums announced the exhibition on October 14, 2026, describing it as a retrospective that explores fashion as a language of craftsmanship, memory, artistic inspiration and cultural storytelling. The show is presented at M7, described by Qatar Museums as the country's epicentre for innovation and entrepreneurship in fashion, design and technology.
The exhibition is organised across five thematic chapters. "The Human Hand: In the Atelier" introduces how Erdem works, through early sketches, college work, personal objects and atelier materials that illuminate the origins of his aesthetic vision. "Typologies: ERDEM Codes" examines the recurring visual language that has evolved over two decades of collections.
"Objects of Affection" places Erdem's garments in dialogue with selected works from the Museum of Islamic Art — paintings, sculptures and decorative arts — revealing what the organisers call unexpected conversations between fashion, painting, sculpture and decorative arts. "The Muse" explores iconic personalities whose lives and stories have inspired the designer, including the Duchess of Devonshire, Maria Callas, Margot Fonteyn, Marianne North and Hélène Smith, as well as the 1958 meeting between Queen Elizabeth II and jazz musician Duke Ellington.
The closing chapter, "The Imaginary Conversation," celebrates Erdem's Autumn/Winter 2026 20th anniversary show. Exhibition design is by P. Joseph, with immersive installation design by Robin Brown.
Background
Erdem Moralioglu was born in Montreal to a Turkish father and a British mother, and founded his eponymous label in London in 2005. Over twenty years, ERDEM has built a reputation for precise, poetic design — floral prints, intricate lace and silhouettes shaped by art, literature and history — dressing figures from royalty to the red carpet.
Curator Olivier Gabet said that over the past two decades Moralioglu "has created far more than a distinctive language of dress: he has constructed an imaginative world in which history is never fixed, beauty is never innocent, and the past is continually transformed by the present." Gabet added that Erdem's work "belongs to that rare territory where fashion becomes culture" — deeply British yet profoundly international.
Moralioglu himself said: "I have always been fascinated by the capacity of clothing to hold the trace of a person, a place or a moment in time. Bringing together a 20-year body of work, this exhibition reflects the lives, narratives and encounters that have shaped an evolving language. It is a privilege to share this reflection on the past two decades with a wider audience."
The show also reflects Qatar's wider cultural strategy. It opens during the Qatar Creates Fall/Winter 2026-27 season and forms part of the Years of Culture initiative, chaired by Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, which builds long-term cultural partnerships between Qatar and partner nations. Previous editions have included Qatar-UK 2013, Qatar-Japan 2012, Qatar-Indonesia 2023 and Qatar-Morocco 2024.

Why It Matters
The Doha exhibition matters because it treats fashion as a museum discipline in its own right, not as decoration. By placing garments beside paintings, sculptures and decorative arts from the Museum of Islamic Art, the show argues that a dress can carry the same cultural weight as a canvas — and that the dialogue between fashion and the decorative arts reveals shared visual languages across centuries and civilisations.
For Qatar, the exhibition reinforces M7's role as a leading international platform for fashion, design and creative entrepreneurship, and underlines the country's ambition to be a meeting point for global culture rather than merely a showcase for it. Maha Al Sulaiti, director of M7, said the show offers audiences "a rare opportunity to engage closely with the thinking behind a globally recognised fashion house, while inspiring emerging designers to understand how a distinctive creative identity can be developed over time."
For the fashion world, a 20th anniversary retrospective at this scale is a milestone few independent labels reach. ERDEM has survived — and thrived — as an independent house through two decades of industry consolidation, and the Doha show is a measure of how far its particular language of romance, research and craft has travelled from a London studio to a Gulf museum.
The timing also matters. Opening on October 27, the exhibition gives visitors two full months, through the holiday season, to see a body of work that is rarely gathered in one place — sketches, personal ephemera and atelier materials alongside finished garments.
What Happens Next
The exhibition opens to the public on October 27, 2026, at M7 in Doha and runs until December 26, 2026. Visitors can expect the five chapters to unfold as a journey from the atelier to the anniversary runway show, with the Museum of Islamic Art loans woven throughout.
As part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, the show sits within a wider programme of exhibitions and events celebrating connections between Qatar and its partner countries, with new scholarship on Qatar Museums' collections presented alongside the garments.
For Moralioglu, the retrospective arrives at a moment of reflection: twenty years after founding his label, the exhibition invites audiences to encounter what Gabet called "an imagination in motion" — and to see how a singular voice in fashion continues to evolve.
